Abstract

Summary In 1970, 3535 curettings were examined and endometritis was diagnosed in 345 cases. On rechecking, with resort to various special stains, the diagnosis could be confirmed in only 50% of the cases. Presence of plasma cells, which could not be confirmed by methyl green pyronin staining, was one of the commonest errors in diagnosis. The now definite incidence of 4.8% agrees with that described in the literature. Only by methyl green pyronin staining a diagnosis of chronic endometritis can be made with any degree of certainty.
