Abstract

The treatment of food allergies with Chinese medical remedies has hitherto received no mention in specialised literature. The author presents this therapy for the treatment of allergic reactions to foodstuffs by drawing on his own experience as well as on classical prescriptions and treatment strategies. From the point of view of Chinese medicine, it is above all the spleen and stomach functional systems (pi wei) which are affected. The primary agent causing the disorder is damp heat (shire). The specific treatment for damp heat (shire) is described in the doctrine of warm disorders (wenbing). In his concept for treatment, the author makes use of its well-established strategies. A distinction is made between four different forms of disorder. 1.damp heat (shire) with dominance of dampness (shi)2.phlegm heat (tanre) with dominance of heat (re)3.stagnation of the liver qi (ganqi yujie) leads to damp heat (shire)4.-deficiency (xu) in the spleen functional system (pi) with dampness (shi)The article concludes by presenting two case studies.
