Abstract

In fractures of the femur in the age-group 2-9 years, conservative treatment through extension on the special extension table by Weber, is primarily recommended, even in seriously injured, multiply traumatised children. Of the 51 cases treated in the hospital, using the Weber Extension Table, 20 % had multiple injuries. Procedure as to positioning, reduction of the fracture and the special X-ray techniques are described. Correction of faulty alignment in the rotational plane is discussed in detail. Following the description of 3 typical cases, the indications and contra-indications are compared and contrasted.
