Abstract

A study of the didactic poetry on astrology in Arabic and its precedents in other languages will help to demonstrate the importance of this poetic genre for the ancients in the transmission of knowledge. Focusing principally on al-Andalus but also analysing the main tendencies coming from the Maghreb and Eastern Islam, this article presents examples of the most celebrated authors who used didactic poetry to circulate their astrological and astronomical works. It also mentions the few treatises on this subject that have come down to us, either in their complete form or in fragments.
