Abstract

CLIMATEThe sun has been a relatively minor player in the debate over whether greenhouse warming has arrived and just how bad it will get. Although slight changes in brightness could have a major impact, the lack of long-running direct observations has hindered climate researchers. Now publication of the first analysis of solar brightness (p. [1963][1]) from spliced satellite records suggests a strong recent brightening, fueling a hot dispute about the significance of the data.
