Abstract

Mobigel, a topical spray solution containing diclofenac sodium 4%, is used for the local symptomatic relief of mild to moderate pain and inflammation following acute blunt trauma of small- and mediumsized joints and periarticular structures. This article examines the pathophysiology of inflammation and the mechanism of action of diclofenac, before presenting the evidence base for the efficacy and tolerability of Mobigel, along with a literature review of the use of topical NSAIDs in acute injuries. Studies show that Mobigel is a useful preparation for the treatment of acute pain caused by traumatic blunt injuries to small- and medium-sized joints (MHRA, 2008; Zacher et al, 2008; Massey et al, 2010).
