Abstract
-Dichlorine monoxide is a powerful and selective reagent for either side chain or ring chlorination of deactivated aromatic substrates. It gives excellent product yields under mild conditions where conventional reagents fail or require harsh conditions. The mechanistic aspects of the dichlorine monoxide reactions have been probed using linear free-energy relationships, isotope effects and competitive kinetic studies.
