Abstract

This paper deals with 3D Digital Image Correlation (DIC) analysis including smoothing of the raw data and subsequent strain determination. The evaluation method is based on B-spline approximation of the 3D coordinates with optimization of the essential smoothing parameters. Thereby, a noise analysis of the reference and deformed state by 2D Fast Fourier Transform is performed with adjustment of smoothing parameters during the optimization. In the procedure, the similarity of noise characteristic is evaluated using the Pearson correlation coefficient. The presented evaluation method is demonstrated by an example of a DIC deformation analysis on bending loaded hybrid laminates. As a result, a smooth and plausible strain distribution is achieved.
