Abstract

[EN] The thesis is an initial approach to the biography and work of Antonio Lopez. It deals with an approximation and trust on reality. It focuses on the study of his fundamental drawings, since 1949 until 2011 and also on the meaning of reality and time for Antonio Lopez. Finally, it studies the possibility of existence of a school or group of in Madrid. In the drawings it is revealed to whom and how he discovers the natural drawing; the meaning of the drawing for Antonio Lopez in which what changes the essence of the drawing, painting and sculpture is studied as well as his creative process, the modalities in his drawings (draft, notes of painting from life, rough sketches, design examples and final design) and the themes. In his themes we can find an existential connotation and a temporal and spatial dimension that is investigated as a sequence of nature. They established six thematic scopes: the human figure, domestic interiors, intimate places, food, garden and fruit compositions and landscapes. The human figure is represented on its own, in couples, dressed or naked, sitting with a view to the knee, standing, lying, a close up portrait, medium or whole detail, in general and in different periods or stages of human life. He mainly painted the members of his family as well as others and even invented them. In the interior spaces he represents the inner moments of himself, his intimacy. Consequently, the works of art in his studio represent works of art of extraordinary and expressive intensity. In the garden theme a dialogue with nature is established. In all the landscapes, Tomelloso, his home town, appears and the place where he lives, Madrid. We analyse the importance of reality in his work. A synthesis of the evolution of his realism is made as a symbolic resource. When analysing time, the classification is as follows: the time represented, the time of the representation, the historic time. The time is essential in his work, it is present and it dwells in his work. His work is a testimony of the passage of time and that is what moves and conditions his work. Analysing time in his work La familia de Juan Carlos I, time is of great relevance as it is the masterpiece of his career. The traces of his creative process are present in his work as his own identity, reflection of how the artists have learnt from each other throughout history. His mastery skills make him an exceptional artist with a peculiar philosophy and method. Time is very significant in the way his work concludes. It is always open, ever changing with present time containing the past and so the artist corresponds with his loyalty. In the last chapter, we study the possible existence of a school or group of in Madrid, formed by six artists such as Antonio Lopez is located. It is confirmed that Antonio Lopez, along with Julio and Francisco Lopez Hernandez brothers, Amalia Avia Maria Isabel Moreno and Quintanilla, did not form a school, nor a group of Madrid realism rules or stipulated rules, but a group of peers, friends,…
