With the advances in material design and synthesis, more complex delivery systems with active targeting and multiple functionalities are being developed for a wide variety of applications. New chemistries that utilize thiols, amines, and carboxylic acid moieties allow for facile, efficient functionaliza tion and bioconjugation of macromolecules such as peptides, proteins, and polymers.
