Abstract

Summary A double blind trial of dibenzheptropine citrate in a group of patients with severe chronic cough, expectoration and airway obstruction is described. The patients were already receiving energetic treatment. No additional bronchodilator effect was demonstrated. Sputum volume was reduced with no apparent clinical benefit. There was no improvement in symptoms. Difficulty with micturition occurred in one third of the men over fifty years of age. The drug should not be given to patients with a definite history of difficulty in micturition.
