Abstract

Abstract2,3‐Disubstituted 2‐hydroxyalkylthiophenes 9 and 10 were synthesized in a five‐step sequence and their diastereoselective complexation with the Cr(CO)3 fragment leading to the corresponding tricarbonyl(thiophene)chromium complexes 11 and 12 was investigated. The diastereoselectivity achieved in the complexation reaction was up to 85% d. e. and depends primarily on the bulkiness of the substituent in the 3‐position of the thiophene. The relative configuration of the stereogenic center and the planar element of chirality of complex 11a was determined by X‐ray diffraction analysis.
