Abstract
Candida proliferation in the gastrointestinal tract was responsible for diarrhœa in six patients. Their common presentation was multiple loose or watery bowel movements, without blood or mucus but sometimes associated with abdominal cramps, and lasting as long as 3 months. Yeast cells were most easily identified by direct microscopic examination of stool specimens. Symptoms disappeared in all patients after 3 to 4 days of oral nystatin therapy.
