Abstract

A diamond knife trough is described which does not rely on grease, wax or plastic seals to prevent cutting fluid leakage. This allows organic solvents such as xylol to be used as cutting fluid, without contaminating the knife and producing leaks. This type of cutting fluid is required for easily oxidizable metals such as magnesium. The new knife trough also permits the mounted knife to be cleaned in organic solvents without damage to the trough, and without impairing the seal.
