Abstract

Cell-based impedance spectroscopy is a promising label-free method for electrical monitoring of cell activity in real-time. Here we present two basic designs for fabrication of diamond impedance sensors: i) fully optically transparent diamond film with hydrogen-terminated interdigitated electrodes (IDEs) and ii) built-in gold IDEs covered with a functional diamond layer (fully closed the diamond thin film or isolated nanodiamonds). We also point out technical issues for their fabrication and demonstrate their application mainly for in-vitro study of the adhesion, spreading and proliferation of cells.
