Abstract
Abstract We have succeeded in diamond synthesis using the plasma CVD method and have been developing a diamond coated insert technique. From among a variety of synthesis methods, we adopted the microwave plasma CVD method which is characterized by the stability of the long time synthesis and the reproducibility. We used carbon monoxide (CO) as carbon source gas, and succeeded in diamond synthesis using CO-H 2 mixture gas[1]. By using the microwave plasma CVD method with CO-H 2 mixture gas, we synthesized diamond films on cutting tools. In order to evaluate the cutting performance of the diamond coated tools, turning tests were carried out on Al-Si alloy.
