Abstract

In this edition of ‘Dialogues and Debates’ we have two distinct themes. The first is a most refreshing set of conference reports, one from Peter Martin on his experience of and thoughts about the American Psychological Association’s Annual Convention in Hawaii earlier this year; the other an encouraging personal reflection by Sue Whitcombe on her experience of this year’s DCoP conference. The second theme is a paper by rosemary ritz which is an insightful and confronting social critique of IAPT. I think readers will find the conference reviews thought-provoking and hopefully even inspiring enough to stimulate greater involvement in professional dialogue and participation. rosemary ritz’s paper leaves me enormously challenged to pay attention to language and the power it has to influence our perceptions and worldviews.
