Abstract

A differential absorption lidar (DIAL) system based on a continuously tunable Ti : sapphire laser is described. The system is capable of range-resolved measurement of atmospheric water vapor with 720nm absorption lines. A simple and compact laser wavelength tuning system for the water-vapor 720nm absorption lines is presented. The tuning system makes use of a com-pact wavemeter calibrated by the neon resonance line (724.5167nm) of a hollowcathode lamp. An actual measurement of water vapor in the lower troposphere is achieved by using this DIAL system.
