Abstract

A diagnostic method for air heaters in blast furnaces is described. The method involves magnetic and ultrasonic monitoring, thermometry, and metallographic analysis without the removal of samples. Monitoring data for several air heaters are presented. The benefits of nondestructive monitoring methods are demonstrated. Such methods extend air-heater life and also prevent emergency shutdowns.
