Abstract
The possibility of measuring fusion α-particle features using collective scattering from self-excited plasma eigenmodes is discussed. It is shown that the proper choice of the modes, namely the high-order ion Bernstein waves, allows us to determine density and mean energy of the hot ion minority with the use of present day CO 2 lasers.
