Abstract
To evaluate the diagnostic value of interferon-gamma release assay T-SPOT for childhood tuberculosis. A total of 45 children suspected of tuberculosis at Affiliated Children Hospital, Soochow University were enrolled from July 2011 to June 2012. T-SPOT test was performed and its results were compared with those of PPD test, tuberculosis antibody test, acid-fast bacilli stain and tuberculosis polymerase chain reaction. The sensitivity and specificity of T-SPOT were 92% and 95% respectively. And the values were higher than PPD test (76%, 75%, P<0.01). The overall concordance rate between two tests was 18/19. Positive and negative predictive values of T-SPOT were 96% and 90% respectively. Thus T-SPOT test is rapid, sensitive and specific for diagnosing tuberculosis. It can be applied for an early diagnosis of tuberculosis in children. Key words: Tuberculosis; Child
