Abstract
The main indication for upper endoscopy in outpatients with dyspepsia is to find an illness causing the symptoms. Frequently there is no abnormal findings at endoscopy in this group of patients who are therefore often left without an explanation for their symptoms unless further efforts are made to find out the origin of their dyspepsia.
