Abstract
AbstractAn algorithm is presented for the compiler diagnostic phase by the introduction of a dictionary concept with elimination of duplicate words, synonymous words and messages, special symbols and non‐uniform spellings. The result is compared with an American Standard COBOL Compiler. This concept can be extended beyond the compilers to all systems which issue extensive messages. It will simplify modularity design and aid in standardization of output format.
