Abstract
This paperback edition of the original hardback volume is, according to the authors, aimed at general medical practitioners, nurse practitioners and medical students. The handbook is a pocket atlas, which provides a library of colour images illustrating common disorders affecting the ear, nose, oral cavity, larynx and neck together with some interesting and notable rarities that often and only ever appear in exams. The best sections were on the ear, nose and larynx and included a large number of high quality endoscopic views well supported by CT scan images and anatomical drawings. These sections would be of interest to the trainee maxillofacial surgeon. The chapter on the ear starts off with an introduction on anatomy and embryology followed by sections on the pinna—mainly dermatological conditions, the external auditory meatus and middle ear. The otoscopic images are excellent and well supported by concise explanations in the accompanying text.
