Abstract

The JNR (Japan National Railways) Hakata Base is a general maintenance shop servicing Shinkansen rolling stock, consisting of a number of maintenance machines and equipment. One of the most important problems faced by the Hakata Base is keeping all the machines and equipment operating smoothly, and resuming normal operation without losing time when a failure arises. In this report the author introduces a diagnostic system, incorporating microcomputers, developed at KHI and already successfully in use at the JNR Hakata Base for enhancement of Shinkansen rolling stock maintenance efficiency.
