Abstract

AbstractBipolar disorder can be a destructive psychiatric condition with many faces. Diagnosing bipolar disorder can be a psychiatric detective mystery: early detection and appropriate treatment would help allow the illness to run a benign course, although complete recovery is the exception rather than the rule. Here, Dr Pandarakalam describes the main features of type I and type II bipolar disorder and discusses how diagnostic confusion may occur. Copyright © 2008 Wiley Interface Ltd
