Abstract

Camel (Camelus dromedarius) is an important multipurpose animal in arid and semi-arid areas of the world. Trypanosomiasis caused by Trypanosoma evansi is an important livestock disease causing significant losses in camels. Trypanosomiasis is the most devastating disease, which leads to a slow progressive loss of body condition accompanied by anaemia, weakness, collapse and death. The diagnosis of trypanosomiasis is basically divided into clinical, parasitological and serological. The specific clinical diagnosis of trypanosomiasis is difficult due to non-specific clinical signs coupled with intermittent fever and low parasitaemias. The sensitive and specific diagnosis and their applicability in the field are prerequisites for the epidemiological surveys. In fact, the accuracy of the work will be authenticated if two or more methods that complement each other are used.. This review paper will be fruitful for the researcher as well as field veterinarian in the field of diagnostics.
