Abstract

To survey the life quality, degree of satisfaction on living and the related factors of elderly patients with hypertension in the “5.12” megaseism harder-hit area in Wenchuan. One year after “5.12” megaseism, systematic sampling is brought into 208 elderly patients with hypertension in the megaseism harder-hit area and 102 elderly patients (control group) in the non-megaseism-stricken area. Using the elderly life satisfaction index A scale (life satisfaction index A, LSIA), the World Health Organization Quality of Life Brief (WHOQOL-BRIEF) conduct the assessment and a comparison of life quality. LSIA grade of the elderly patients with hypertension in the disaster area (25.94±7.02) was slightly lower than that of the control group (29.87±9.05) (P<0.05). The LSIA grade of the patients whose direct relatives were dead (22.20±6.40), who completely lost his property (23.01±7.36) and who was disabled (21.89±6.23) in the megaseism are significantly lower than that of the control group (P<0.001). The WHOQOL-BRIEF grade of the elderly patients with hypertension (83.01±27.20) in the disaster area was slightly lower than that of the control group (87.99±29.00) (P<0.05). The patients whose direct relative were dead (78.91±22.90), who completely lost his property (78.55±20.78) and who was disabled (76.64±20.7) in the megaseism are significantly lower than that of the control group (P<0.001). The degree of living satisfaction and life quality of the elderly patients in the disaster area after one year of the megaseism is slightly lower. Under the social support, they have gradually adapted to the new life and have restored the life quality. However, for patients who were affected seriously by the megaseism, such as the patients whose direct relatives were dead, who completely lost his property and who was disabled in the megaseism are living with lower life quality and particularly needs social attention and support.
