Abstract

Development of cardiovascular drug needs electrophysiological studies of those small animals like mice or rats. Electrocardiography (ECG) of hirsute rodents is time-consuming We have developed a micro magnetometer array with 9-channel superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) with 2.5-mm diameter pickup-coil for non-contact measurement of magnetocardiogram (MCG) in small animals. Regional myocardial injury was made with cryoinjury probe in mice and rat hearts, and the injured pattern in MCG was recorded. In rats, anterior myocardial injury created QS pattern in this micro MCG. Posterior myocardial injury created QS pattern in MCG. Intraperitoneal quinidine (60 mg/kg) prolonged QT interval in mice and rats. Quinidine-induced QT prolongation was successfully detected by micro MCG. Newly developed micro magnetometer array system for MCG facilitated the research process of electrophysiological studies of small rodents.
