Abstract

Currently, the diagnosis of the major adrenal disorders that cause hypertension is extremely accurate due to the development of precise hormonal analytic methods and radiographic techniques for the localization of specific lesions. The major portion of patient evaluation can be carried out in the office, with hospitalization being reserved only for surgical intervention when indicated. This review concentrates on the diagnosis of primary hyperaldosteronism, Cushing's syndrome, and pheochromocytoma as adrenal causes of hypertension. For a full discussion of all aspects of adrenal disease, the reader is referred to the bookAdrenal Disorders [24].
