Abstract
Cytomegalovirus(CMV) infection is widely prevalent in China. Fetuses and immunocompromised infants are susceptible to this disease. Liver is the main target, and respiratory, neurological, hemotological system can be involved as well. Sometimes it could be fatal. Cytomegalovirus infection among the healthy population usually manifest as subclinical or latent infection. However, the outcome of cytomegalovirus infection in the perinatal period and childhood could be severe. Perinatal cytomegalovirus infection is one of the main etiologies of birth defects and could cause irreversible lesions in the infants. The timing of cytomegalovirus infection in childhood usually takes place early, and the positive incidence of antibody is as high as eighty percent by the end of the first year. Therefore, early diagnosis and treatment of cytomegalovirus infection are more and more concerned. The authors reviewed the related literatures on the diagnosis and treatment of cytomegalovirus infection. Key words: cytomegalovirus infection; diagnosis; treatment progress
