Abstract

This article provides an overview of equine infectious placentitis in the United Kingdom. The clinical signs and diagnosis of the condition is described along with the challenges associated with this. The method of acquisition of the correct ultrasound images to appropriately measure the combined thickness of the uterus and placenta (CTUP) is described along with some common confounding issues. The additional diagnostic aids of serum amyloid A and plasma concentrations of progesterone and oestrogens are discussed. Multiple treatment options are currently available for this condition and suggested combinations of treatments are presented.
