Abstract

Samuel W. Perry, M.D., editor of the Treatment Planning column since January 1991, died March 15 of pancreatic cancer at the age of 53. Sam was a model of what a major contributor to the scientific literature should be. His ideas were translated into research, and those research findings into action. His work with burn patients and AIDS victims was truly pioneering. In addition, as a tri-athlete and highly energetic person, he was all any patient or colleague would want as a model of health and mental health. We at H&CP will miss him greatly, and filling his shoes will be impossible. After the current series on historical treatment planning is completed this year, the column will be suspended.
