Abstract

Objective To investigate the diagnosis and treatment of dry eye in female patients. Methods 52 female patients (104 eyes) with dry eyes were examined by Keratograph 5M. The dry eyes were classified according to the examination results; and the treatment was guided according to the type of dry eye. The patients were followed up for 1 month to observe the tear meniscus height, the tear breakup time, and the lack of meibomian gland before and after the treatment. Results Keratograph 5M was used to analyze 3 patients (5.77%) of lacking water type, who were treated with 0.1% sodium hyaluronate eye drops 5 times a day; 33 evaporative dry eye patients (63.36%) were treated with natural forte eye drops four times a day, meibomian gland massage one time a week, and ofloxacin eye ointment on the margin of eyelid three times a day; and 16 patients of mixed type (30.77%) were treated with the above two methods. After the treatment, the symptoms of all the patients were improved in varied degrees; the tear meniscus height, the tear breakup time, and the lack of meibomian gland were improved. Conclusion Keratograph 5M ophthalmic surface analyzer can be used to diagnose and classify the dry eyes of female patients; and good results have been achieved in the treatment according to classification.
