Abstract
In this article, the diagnosis and medical checkup of osteoporosis are reviewed. Osteoporosis is defined by bone histomorphometry, radiography, morphometry of vertebral body, and semiquantitative assessment of vertebral deformity. Diagnostic criteria of osteoporosis in Japanese Society for Bone and Mineral Research is composed of fragility fracture and low bone mass. The aim of osteoporosis checkup is to detect subjects with low bone mass using measurement of bone mineral density.
