Abstract

This book is a collection of chapters written by presenters at the 43rd Annual Symposium of the New Orleans Academy of Ophthalmology, New Orleans, La, February 18-20,1994. The contributors were distinguished ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgeons. Topics included many facets of eyelid, lacrimal, and orbital surgery. The book comprises 26 chapters, of which 4 are outstanding roundtable discussions taken directly from a question-and-answer period during the meeting. Many valuable clinical pearls from ptosis surgery, entropion repair, orbit fracture management, and enucleations and eviscerations are included, which are not typically seen in peer-reviewed journal articles. These sections were the highlight of the book, and it was disappointing that more of these discussions from other topics were not included. The remaining chapters were variable in their quality, but overall they were excellent reviews of the field up to 1994. Some chapters reflected the authors' surgical biases, therefore limiting alternative points of view.
