Abstract

Some patients with chronic recurrent sinusitis are refractory to medical or surgical therapeutic modalities and possibly may have an underlying immunodeficiency. Contrary to the common belief that immunodeficient patients present with life-threatening infections, they may present with subtle infections, and with few, if any, characteristics to differentiate them from immunocompetent patients. Total IgG, IgG subclass concentrations, and antibody response to immunization should be evaluated in patients with chronic recurrent sinusitis to identify those with immunodeficiency. This subset of patients may benefit from additional therapeutic measures.
