Abstract

ABSTRACT Dolomitization of Late Cambrian oolitic limestone in the Maurice Formation followed lithification and preceded regional fracturing of the rock. The source of Mg-rich dolomitizing solutions is believed to have been connate waters from adjacent argillaceous sediments. Regional compaction forced these waters into the permeable oolite sands of the Maurice Formation. Fluid migration and subsequent dolomitization were controlled by effective porosity trends essentially parallel to bedding. Aragonitic oolite nuclei formed natural foci for dolomitization.
