Abstract

Viséan limestones in Belgium show evidence for marine early diagenesis followed by meteoric and then deeper burialdiagenesis. The fourth-order sequence boundaries have no influence on the diagenetic pattern of the limestones. The third-order, Type 1 sequence boundary exerts a distinct influence on the diagenetic pattern of the carbonates due to the development of a meteoric lens that persisted even after sedimentation resumed.
