Abstract

Background: Diabetic mastopathy (DMP) is a rare pathological condition characterized by the formation of tumor-like fibroepithelial lesions in the breast region, typically observed in individuals afflicted with type 1 diabetes mellitus. This study presents an atypical occurrence of diabetic mastopathy found in a 29-year-old female with type 2 diabetes mellitus of the non-insulin-dependent subtype. Case Presentation: The physical examination revealed the presence of a firm and palpable lump near the nipple of the right breast. An ultrasound (US) examination was conducted, illustrating the presence of tissue distortion and nipple retraction of the breast. Lymphadenopathy in the right axilla and infraclavicular regions was also found. Histological findings demonstrated typical DMP with fibrosis without evidence of malignancy. Conclusion: Diabetic mastopathy is a rare disorder that may pose a challenge. However, meticulous monitoring and assertive management, along with timely identification and effective administration of medical care, can ultimately result in a positive prognosis.
