Abstract
This reflection follows a personal perspective of diabetes nursing over the previous 60 years published in this journal coinciding with the Queen’s 60th Jubilee in 2012. Diabetes nursing continues to progress with specialist nurses providing high quality evidence based practice. Over the last ten years, the diabetes ‘scene’ has become even more complex with the advent of new technologies, complex therapies, structured diabetes education programmes, a changing NHS and an even greater need to reduce costs. Training and continuing education for those providing care and support is essential if people with diabetes and those close to them, are to become ‘experts’ at managing their diabetes.
