Abstract

AbstractPurpose: The purpose of the research was to analyze diabetes mellitus as a social and economic problem of modern healthcare using theoretical and experimental research methods.Design/Methodology/Approach: The article gives epidemiological characteristics of diabetes mellitus and presents data of own studies on the effect of alloxane diabetes on cerebral circulation in laboratory animals in acute cerebral ischemia.Findings: The work used databases on diabetes mellitus presented in the Diabetic Atlas of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) of the 9th edition, the database of the online register of diabetes mellitus of the Russian Federation and data from the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat). A rating of 10 regions of the Russian Federation in which diabetes mellitus is most common has been compiled. It was established that the most difficult situation for diabetes in the Republic of Karelia, in which the most patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus per 100,000 population, and by the prevalence of type 1 diabetes mellitus, this region is in 2nd place in the Russian Federation. The dynamics of growth has been studied (since 2005. 2018) in disabled children (%) from 0 to 17 years old suffering from this disease. Information is presented on complications of diabetes mellitus, including diseases of the cardiovascular system (from 2007–2016) in the Russian Federation.Originality/Value: The paper presents data from its own experimental studies on the features of the influence of diabetes mellitus on cerebral hemodynamics in conditions of ischemia and cerebral reperfusion in comparison with animals without endocrine pathology.KeywordsDiabetes mellitus; disabilityComplicationsBrain ischemiaExperiment118JEL Code118
