Abstract

In 2021, we celebrated the 100th anniversary of Fredrick Banting and Charles Best's discovery of insulin. Due to this life-saving extract, people with type 1 diabetes are not only living to adulthood, but they are also now becoming older. Yet, a challenge remains. There is limited evidence-based knowledge surrounding older people and geriatric care for those people living with diabetes because many aging patients are often excluded from research studies. This forces clinicians to rely on their personal experience, sound clinical judgment, or the experience learned from colleagues.
