Abstract
The concept of chronic disease distress is not new. Many chronic health conditions, including cancer, lung disease, chronic pain, inflammatory bowel disease and others, come with significant emotional and psychological burden. In the diabetes world, there has been sufficient scientific study into distress such that that it is possible to demonstrate its importance as a public health issue and to propose system changes that could serve to benefit not only diabetes but other chronic illnesses. This is an important topic of examination as diabetes rates are climbing quickly and significant rates of diabetes distress are following (1–6).
