Abstract

Di(2-pyridyl)furoxan (1) forms palladium(II) and copper(II) complexes having seven-membered chelate rings with coordination via the two pyridine nitrogens. In contrast, reaction with bis(2,2′-bipyridine)dichlororuthenium leads to an unusual ring-opening ring-closing rearrangement reaction to produce a complex of 3-nitro-2-(2-pyridyl)pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyridine (7). X-Ray crystal structures are reported for a copper complex of (1) and a ruthenium complex of (7).
