Abstract

This paper reports the development and application of the distributed generators/cluster real-time simulation system (DGRSS), a simulation environment for active distribution networks (ADNs) with high penetration of distributed renewable energy (DRE). Existing power real-time simulation tools accurately describe power systems owning traditional power components, distributed generations (DGs), high voltage direct current (HVDC) devices, et al. However, as the smart grid increasingly turns to the cyber-physical system (CPS) that integrates DRE smoothly and efficiently, these simulators are less capable of meeting the requirement of model and test. DGRSS has the advantages of computational capacity, dynamic real-time simulation, model library and scalability, which bridge the gap well. Moreover, an application example is presented to demonstrate the functionality and validity of DGRSS.
