Abstract

AbstractOligo-elements are contained at low concentrations in the body, but they share important biological functions. They are bringing by the alimentation in adequate quantities if the alimentation is equilibrated; deficits are found in risk populations. When we can easily recognize iron deficiency also detecting copper deficiency, the situation is different for zinc where the deficiencies are rather acquired. Iodine deficiency is particularly serious as a cause for hypothyroidism, with a low intellectual development in children and with a goiter; despite the use of iodate salts, iodine deficiencies follow the causes of malnutrition. Selenium deficiency is rather found in countries with soils pauper in selenium, and selenium supplementation must be limited to these zones. Fluor supplementation is no more recommended in infants. Molybdenum, nickel, chrome, cobalt and vanadium deficiencies are still bad known and rather poorly explored.
