Abstract

Hypoglycemia is one of the leading causes of transfers to the NICU at this hospital. This condition leads to separation of newborns from their parents, decreased exclusive breastfeeding rates, exponentially higher hospital costs, increased lengths of stay, and increased levels of invasive procedures required. The goal of this intervention is to provide a low-cost, minimally invasive option for treatment of hypoglycemia in newborns older than 35-weeks’ gestation.
