Abstract
Infrared spectra of Dewar pyridine, produced from pyridine in an argon matrix by UV irradiation, have been measured by matrix-isolation infrared spectroscopy. Vibrational assignments have been performed with an aid of the DFT calculation, where the 6-31++G ** basis set was used to optimize the geometrical structures. It has also been found that cyclobutadiene and HCN are produced by further photolysis of Dewar pyridine as well as by direct photodissociation of pyridine. The relative rate constants are estimated from the infrared intensity changes upon UV irradiation.
