Abstract

Correlation charts and biostratigraphic data are presented for the Devonian of the Altay-Sayan Province and also for the principal Siberian and European Devonian sections. Three paleogeographic provinces are recognized in Siberia: Altay-Sayan, west Pacific, and north Asian. A Siberian Devonian reference section is chosen (Kuznetsk Basin) in which stratigraphy and faunal sequence are well known. Work since 1958 shows several problems in correlation of Upper Silurian and Lower Devonian units of Siberia with respect to European reference sections. A correlation chart shows how Gedinnian, Siegenian, and Coblenzian Stages are used differently in Siberia, Russia, Podolia, and Czechoslovakia than in rest of Western Europe. C.G. Tillman
